Margaret Bridge Munnar

Margaret Bridge- A suspension bridge that connects old and new Munnar
Margaret Bridge, one of the two hanging or suspension bridge that connects the two sides of the Muthirappuzha River in Old Munnar. Built by Britisher's in 1942, it was named after Queen Elizabeth sister.

The pillars are made of Cast.Iron and the bridge is hanging in iron ropes. The cast iron parts are imported from United Kingdome, but the design and engineering works are done from Munnar itself.
At that time this is the only way that connects the two sides of the river. The workers of the factories on both sides of the river depended largly on this bridge. Now the area is surrounded by lots of new age buildings, but still this hanging bridge gains visitor attraction.

This bridge sways and swings while one walks through it, which makes the journey adventerous for a first time visitor. But for.a native it is their daily routine and walking through the bridge is just a cakewalk.

Many landmarks built by Britisher's disappeared, but still Margaret Bridge attracts tourists with its own blending with the Munnar's natural beauty. A connection between Old and New.
